A fare increase to be considered by the transport minister this week would apply only to cabs under the Taxi OK programme, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) said on Monday. DLT spokesman Kamol Buranapong said 12,986 of the 80,647 taxis in Bangkok are registered with the Taxi OK programme. Mr Kamol said only Taxi OK-certified taxis would be able to charge the increased fares if the proposal is approved by Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith. The hike is to be forwarded to the minister later this week, the spokesman said. Mr Kamol said in the 12 months from Oct 1 last year to the end of September, 48,223 complaints about taxis were submitted via the 1584 hotline.
